Addiction
I do not intend to do self-portrait. But, this work on the theme of addition actually has the same effect as self-portraiture. This work is about my own addiction of milk tea. For my beloved milk tea, I really want to say that “I drink therefore I am”. Addiction can be a symbol of a person, or at least, he is out of control on loving something or doing something specific. It’s an index reflecting his emotional stress and self-controlling power. Magritte, Duane Michals and Yayoi Kusama inspire my work. I appreciate Michals’ creative idea of going towards “interior”, as opposite to most people who are working on the “exterior”, e.g. reportage, walking around photographing, weddings. Same as Yoyoi Kusama, I love dots too, although not as addictive as her. Her discovery of the dots and the idea of “Self Obliteration” are both interesting. Her attitude towards art as salvation of her life is encouraging to many contemporary artists too.
